We’ve been battling with our daughter for over a year now to get her to go to sleep on time, in her own bed, AND stay there, without either Daddy or Mummy needing to sleep with her all night. We tried everything in the book. Then we threw the book away. We tried everything that wasn’t in the book, and just gave up, deciding ‘it is what it is, someday she’ll go to sleep without a battle.’
That day has come. And the cure didn’t come through ‘baby-wising’ or ‘ferberizing’ or ‘attachment parent-izing’ or any of the other ‘systems’ out there that ‘solve’ your baby sleep problems.
The Sleep Cure was a Bunk Bed. Last week, we bought a bunk bed. It is Miss Three’s little sanctuary. When she wants to be alone, she goes up there. At bedtime, Daddy climbs up there with her, reads a story, says “Goodnight” and leaves. She sleeps. All Night Long. It’s miraculous.
Perhaps I should market this. I could make some outlandish claim: Use my ‘cure’ for sleep problems! Buy your 3 year old a bunk bed, now! If you don’t, you’ll be hindering his growth and causing life long psychological damage. Even the best psychiatrist in America will not be able to help him. He’ll be just like Monk.
Because, after all, every child is the same, and what works for My Miss Three will definitely be the ‘cure’ for all Three Year Olds.
well, this is one of the best ideas I have heard, no kidding, my father also made a bunk bed for my sister and brother and they loved it, then we put blanket around it and made it into a huge tent
@Rahul: that's a great idea. I'm sure that once the kids are done with using it as a jungle gym, they'll figure out how to make it into a tent.
