The study questions have sparked some thoughts, so I figured I’d share them with you.
When I found out I was pregnant with my second child, who just happens to be my son, I felt a lot of emotions. I was excited, terrified, flabbergasted. I didn’t know if I’d be able to have a second child, and if I did, I thought it would take a lot of effort. So, he was a little earlier than my ‘plan’. In many ways I was still recovering from the birth of my daughter, even though she was 15 months old, so it was a little overwhelming to think about #2 coming just a couple of weeks after her second birthday. Other than that, I was thrilled. And I so wanted a boy! I wanted the perfect 1 Girl/1 Boy combo. I had already picked out the names of my kids, for crying out loud! And just as I knew that my first was a girl, I knew very early on that #2 was a boy. Whew – I don’t have to dust the cobwebs off the name books.
Timothy is the exact opposite of Samantha.
I’ll quote some of the Warrior Prayers ebook for you:
“…boys! They’re rough and tumble. I don’t have an athletic bone in my body. They’re loud and obnoxious. I enjoy peace and quiet. They love dirt and mud and bugs. I’d rather curl up with a good book in my nice cool family room.
Obviously, God has a sense of humor. There is something different about boys!
· They’re loud.
· They like to leap from tall buildings with no safety net (a.k.a. jump off the top bunk).
· They like to build forts and hide candy.
· They break toilets and “go” in (and all over) anything BUT the toilet.
· They’re adventurous.
· They’re natural born protectors.
· They like to shoot things (even when there’s nothing actually resembling a gun).
· They shower you with spit when showcasing their sound effects skills.
· They love their mommies and need their daddies.
· They’re made of snakes and snails and puppy dog tails (OK, not really. But when I told my oldest that girls were made of sugar and spice and everything nice, he asked if he could lick me!)” p.7
Um. Sorry. But that describes my daughter!! My son is cuddly and quiet. He loves to sing and dance. Oh, he can hunt bugs with the best of them, but that’s only when She initiates the hunt. He’s loud. But She’s louder. He loves planes and trains and big trucks. And She loves animals and pink dresses. My girl is the one sitting in the mud puddle with her princess dress on, throwing mud at her little brother and laughing with him.
Anyway, you get my drift.
So, how are you doing? Are you enjoying the challenge so far? Let me know.
Anne – "That describes my daughter" – I clapped! LOVE LOVE LOVE when gender stereotypes are proved wrong for the billionth time. May she grow up to be a strong, powerful woman.
Sage – yes, I love it, too. So glad she's not a 'foo foo' girl. And it's my plan to help her grow up into that strong, powerful woman. Although I really don't think she's gonna need much help. Maybe just Mummy in the sidelines cheering her on as she conquers the world.
"Sitting in a mud puddle with her princess dress on" Oh man, I adore her. That's such a perfect description! Gah! She sounds perfect. Simply perfect.
