Saturday is family day. We decided mid morning to go to the pool, and Timothy promptly decided to take his morning nap. So, we cleaned house while waiting for him to wake up.
Finally, we set out, as the sky was growing dark and the wind was picking up. Murphy’s Law. It hasn’t rained for months, and on the day we want to go to the pool, it threatens rain. I didn’t really believe it would deliver.
We decided to stop at Peo’s for lunch. Just after receiving our food, there was a crash of thunder, a gale blast through the outdoor restaurant, and suddenly the rain began falling in sheets. Samantha loves storms, so she ran out into the rain giggling and dancing. Then pea sized hail began to fall, which just added to the fascination for Samantha, as she’s never seen it before.
To add a little more adventure to our eating experience, the wind changed again, sending the rain sideways into the shelter we were eating under. As many other patrons screamed and ran from the rain, we just started laughing. We weren’t going anywhere. We had two hungry kids and were pretty famished ourselves. Timothy didn’t like the spray of water in his face, but the next mouthful of rice kept his mind off it.
By the time we’d finished our meal, the storm was over, the sun was shining and the
temperature was again soaring at 105F or 37C. And we set out for the pool.
Fat chance! I turned around and Samantha was fast asleep in her car seat, with Timothy following close behind.
Family Day is almost over. I think we’ll still get to the pool this evening. We must get to the pool. We just won’t go to the awesome pool with the slides. Either we’ll play in the kiddie pools that grace our front lawn or we’ll go to Ing Doi for a dip.
