Today I made a loaf of bread. It’s a first for me. And, as you can tell, I’m pretty proud of myself. It’s yummy, too. I think this may the start of something new. Sean and I starting a new health kick, trying to cleanse our bodies of all the gunk that’s built up over the years. I figure that if I make my own bread, at least I know what’s going into it, and I can experiment and modify recipes to be more healthy. That’s the theory, anyway. We’ll see how the reality turns out.
Also, today we tried the first coffee from the Lighthouse Coffee Shop. Joanna from Montana is teaching us how to use the new coffee machine sent from Germany, and we’re having lots of fun sampling the different kinds of coffee we plan to put on the menu. I had a Regular Caramel Latte, Sean had a Soy Caramel Latte. Both made by Sean. Very yummy! Hmm, maybe I should have taken my loaf of bread to the shop with me. I think it would have gone nicely together.
Enjoying a Lighthouse ‘preview’
Yay for bread making! I love to make homemade bread! I mostly make Sourdough or rye. Anyway, bread baking is really rewarding. There are so many great sites and recipes out there. On my blog is a button for “A year in Bread” they always have interesting challenges. I haven’t actually done any of them within the challenge month, but they are so detailed. I think it’s a good resource.
Also, something I learned the hard way is that with making a white bread recipe into a wheat bread recipe you can’t simple add the wheat flour in the same proportion. It works best if you still leave half of the white flour and do only half of the wheat flour. Otherwise your bread can turn into a real inedible brick. Kudos for liking so much your first loaf. I think getting something right the first time around always makes for more confidence to continue at it. I hope all your bread baking continues to turn out well.
Hugs,
Crystal
