Thirteen Reasons I want to Go Home to Thailand.
1. I miss Mirjam and Gampon Kumdee. They are our best friends. Such a great sounding board and so fun to be with.
2. I miss Hannah, David, and Jonathan, the Kumdee kids. They are the cutest, sweetest kids on the planet. They’ve always been part of our lives. We just love them soooooo much. Urrgh, being away from them is so hard….
3. I miss my dogs. We have 3 – two goldens and one miniature pincher. Rusty is the biggest and he’s just the best dog in the world. Honey is sick, so I’m worried about her. Kre is well… she’s a small dog and so she has her own issues to deal with.
4. I miss my house. It’s a cute little house. We call it Sanborn Cottage. The garden is the perfect size for us and it’s just down the road from the Kumdee family, so we can walk over there and visit whenever we feel the need. (but right now we are a 10 hour plane ride away. Oh the agony!!)
5. I miss real Thai food. There is not food like authentic Thai food, and it can only be found in Thailand. Oh, for some Khao Soiy, Muu Satay, followed by Thai iced tea!!! Oh for the delights of real Penang Curry Kai, Kai Pat Met Mamuang and Jasmine rice! Or Pla Tap Tim Saam Rot!!! Sticky Rice and Mangoes!!!!
6. The social life. I love dropping by to see Thai friends, sitting on a mat and eating Som Tam and sticky rice together. No appointments necessary. Just come on over – we’ve always go time for friends and food!!
7. The family atmosphere. Everyone is part of the family. I am someones older or younger sister, aunt or niece. And everyone is concerned about what’s going on in your life, not oblivious and uncaring like life in the West.
8. I miss my house keeper!!! Yes, I confess, I have a housekeeper in Thailand. Right now, I need someone who can cook for me and Sean, cause if I cook, I can’t eat. If I smell Sean cooking, I can’t eat. Also, I’m just a really bad housekeeper and it drives Darling Husband nuts!!!
9. I have nothing to do here, and I have no friends in this city. Actually, not completely true. I am Sean’s secretary, scribe for his book, and a baby incubator. And we have a couple of friends that we know from Thailand. Hanging out with them is always a treat.
10. I miss teaching the young girls, inspiring them to dream bigger than they think possible.
11. I miss being silly with the young girls, goofing around and teasing each other in that very familiar Thai way.
12. Did I mention the food???
13. Oh, and I love speaking Thai. I really want someone to speak Thai with. I called my house keeper the other day, and we talked for about 10 minutes. It was so nice to chat with her. Ahh, I’ve still got it!!!

Very nice list. I can totally understand being homesick. I love Germany, but there are some things I really miss about Canada. Happy Thursday! π
I’m learning to like Thai food but it’s so spicy. That soup took care of my cold though. Be happy!!
I lived in Korea for a while, and have never tasted REAL Korean food since then. MISS IT!
Your description of fun and friends in Thailand makes ME want to go there. I already love the not-real Thai food, can’t imagine how good it would be for real. π
I’ve posted my Thursday Thirteen, too. Enjoy!
Your list really shows you are deeply homesick. If you can’t go home as yet, try to find something to keep you away from thinking about home.
Thanks for dropping by.
I hope you get to go home soon…..
Thanks for visiting!
Poor girl, so homesick ? Must be terrible. Fortunately I never had to have that. But I can imagine that it is an awful feeling.
But numbering all this food made my mouth water !!
as long as you are with your husband… there’s no reason to be homesick… home is where your family is!
hopping from TT
great list anne!
you have been gone for too long. but this furlough is so important.
i laughed about the baby incubator job.
hugs!
Awww sounds like you’re homesick. I hate that! But cheer up it’s Thursday!
I know what it’s like to be homesick. It stinks!!! Mine’s up too. :o)
I’ve never had Thai food but I’ve been wanting to try it for a long time. Now even more so.
Have a Happy!
I really enjoyed this Thu. thirteen. I remember you when you said you were from Thailand. I am an HPer as well. I am so thrilled that you are pregnant! Congratulations. I am praying for your JB π I also wanted to say I have similar feelings having grown up somewhere that is ‘not’ America, where people sometimes get straight to the important stuff istead of talking about this and that.
Sending lots of love and prayers,
Miriam
