We spent the weekend in Sydney, and our good friends Rosa and Nick had a real treat waiting for us. On Saturday they took us out in their speed boat for the day.

We set out at for Rose Bay at about 8:30am, and had the boat in the water by 9:30. Then we took off into the depths of the harbour, a little too speedy for Rosa’s liking. Little James was unsure of the situation, too, and promptly fell asleep so he didn’t have to deal with it. We zoomed past Fort Denison, the Sydney Opera House and under the Harbour Bridge. Then we stopped in front of Luna Park, and remembered fun times in our youth. We continued up the Parramatta River, turning green with envy at all the very rich and comfortable houses on the harbour…

The boys found a good place for a spot of water skiing and knee boarding, and I had to ‘spot’ while Nick drove the boat and Sean skied. Rosa and the Little Man waited on the shore. Sean mananged to get a good 40 minutes of skiing in before he just threw his arms up in the air, indicating he was ‘nakered’ (completely exausted). And all this was accomplished before lunch. So, we hauled him in, grabbed Mum & Son, and took off for a quiet cove to replenish our strength.

As we ate, in the midst of fighting off kamakze seagulls, it was suggested that we go to Homebush Bay before finally heading for home. I suddenly remembered that my sister’s apartment is right on the water, and her complex has a private jetty. So, we headed up for a surprise visit and some much needed coffee. It was kind of cool to pull up to her ritzy complex by boat – we all felt very imporant and very ‘yuppie’. So, Liz provided a cuppa and bickies, and we enjoyed our visit to yuppie-ville.

On the way home, we swung by Darling Harbour, had a sticky beak at the Bounty replica and all the natives (mostly tourists), before speeding off (whoops, the water police weren’t too happy, and yelled at us to slow down) towards Rose Bay.

It was a great day. We were all exhausted, and ready to just lie around at home and watch the idiot box.

The next morning Sean woke up to discover that he had been attacked by something sinister from the sea, and is still trying to get rid of the itchy red spots on his legs. It’s a good thing his wetsuit covered most of his body…
