Okay, so we’ve been mega busy as usual. So I will have to back up a little.
About a week ago (March 1&2), Sean was invited to Huay da Top village for a wedding. He was really excited to go and just be a part of the celebration in our favourite hill tribe village. When he got there, he discovered that he wasn’t a mere guest, but he was ‘guest speaker’, so he had about 3 hours to come up with a sermon on marriage for the bride and groom – oh yeah, and he had to do it in Thai, too, cause there were no English speakers there… Sean is becoming quite the preacher lately, having gone to another village the Sunday before to preach.
Now, this is the village that we have been working with for 7 + years. Most of the villagers are Christian, but the Witch Doctor has been hesitant to become Christian and still had all his animistic alters and fetishes. While Sean was in the village (along with 2 church staff from City Gate Church), the Witch Doctor, Boo Ngeun is his name, decided it was time to accept Christ. So, Sean, Prayoon and Tongkham all went to his house to pray with him and his wife. They got permission to burn the alters and fetishes, and so the next day most of the villagers went up the hill at the top of the village to gather for worship as they burned the alters, fetishes and demon ‘house’. Sean got some really good video and it really was a great celebration. The village had rejected animism 7 years ago, and has been praying for the Boo Ngeun to accept Christ since then, so they can be completely free of the oppressive spirits. The fact that Sean was able to get any video was a miracle, because upon arriving at the village, he discovered that his batteries for his camera were dead. Sean got the camera out on the off chance it might work, and it just kept going and going. It was great to have something to show CGC members when he returned to Chiang mai.
The next highlight (we have been in alot of meetings lately, and so they are the low lights 😉 ) was Tuesday evening. I will have to give some back ground. Sean met a soldier named Khun Haan on his trip to the villages with his cousins back in January. They stayed in contact, and recently we found out Haan is sick. Sean visited him in his home, and Khun Haan knows the gospel and told Sean he wasn’t really interested, he just wanted a friend. Because because of his illness, Sean invited him to a special healing service on Tuesday Night. Sean was very busy with technical/computer stuff, and also translation, and so Haan had to sit by himself. I was worried he’d feel neglected and just leave. But at the end of the service, Haan accepted Christ. I ran to grab Sean from the office, so he could be with him. Haan wasn’t healed that night, but he said he just knew that he could no longer reject the Gospel.
There’s also some other stuff to tell, but you’ll have to read the blog below to see that…..
That gave me the chills! Praying for the witch doctor and the whole village!
