So, today I was at the airport again, saying a goodbye to a young lady I have been friend and ‘aunt’ to for the last 8 years. When I first arrived in Chiang Mai, Amber was just a girl, wide eyed, innocent, adorable and oh so excited to meet me. She made me feel so special and important! Over the years, I have been awed by her talent, her desire to learn, and her love for people. She comes across as a very quiet, shy and perhaps even ‘moldable’ young lady, but she is very strong and not easily swayed from what she knows is right and the truth.

Today Amber flew off into the sunset to get married. About a year ago a young man stole her heart away, and we knew it wouldn’t be long before he got to keep the rest of her, too. Thankfully, this pseudo Aunt got to meet Jake and give her approval (not that it really mattered! Amber’s parents had already done that important job). They will be married in Washington state in less than a month. I wish I could be there for the event.

I’m gonna miss Amber. I loved to hang out and chat, to laugh with her and at her. To tease her and embarrass her. I guess I’ll just have to concentrate all my efforts on her 2 sisters now. LOL. She’s embarking on the greatest adventure of her life, and I know she’s gonna love it.

Sometimes I think it might just be easier to have chosen a stable life – stayed in my hometown, home church, close to childhood friends and family – instead of choosing a life marked by constant goodbyes.

But then, I wouldn’t know Amber and her family, or the Kumdees & my CGC Family, or the Foxes, or the Grafstrom-Westlunds, or my San Jose CCC family… the list goes on. And I wouldn’t have married Sean. So I guess I did get the better end of the deal!
