The summer days have been filled with adventures in the woods, bug hunts, frog catching and snake handling. And swimming. Lots of swimming.

It rains daily here in Florida – not just light showers, but heavy thunder storms that just roll in without warning. So, we have to watch the skies when we want to venture into the pool. We have been known to take a 5 second dip before the thunder shatters our tranquility and we have to run for cover.

Which is why we love our local library. For some reason my kids love that place. I’m not sure why… perhaps this tale will help answer this question.

We no longer go to the Library to read books.
We go to meet Beauty Queens who tell us to follow our dreams; to make green slime and call it science; to play with bugs and spiders and creepy crawlies.

And last, but not least, we meet the local wildlife.  In the last 2 months, the kids have learned about and met owls, possums, snakes and tortoises. We even got to hold them!!!

But the animal that we are the most excited about is: The Baby Skunk. Samantha held a very cute 10 week old skunk. She said, “Oh Mummy, she’s so soft!! But she is a little smelly.” Apparently, baby skunks are unable to use their musk. And another thing I learned is that skunks are omnivores. Of course, that makes sense.

So, what do you do at your library?
