Outside my window… it’s late afternoon, and the sky is red. Not because the sunset is anything special, but because it’s ‘Burning Season’. A lovely haze hangs over the city, burning the eyes and making breathing deep a dangerous sport… (cough, cough – there goes my lung). Through a Thai Air Quality website, I can view how imminent death really is. PM-10 is the most threatening matter in the haze. Today it’s at 86.3ug/m3 and climbing fast. On March 1 it was only 39. The legal maximum is 100. I sure do wish that tropical storm had visited us over the weekend.
Update: these numbers are wrong…. correct numbers in the comments section. Also, the rain finally came on the morning of the 10th, and lasted about 10 minutes. Stopped as suddenly as it started. As a result, the PM10 reading for March 11 dropped dramatically from 162.2 to 83.1. The Nerd Within must post this important amendment… it can not, it will not be stopped.
I’m thinking… About my son falling off the bed. Poor little guy. He’s got a big knot on his forehead. It’s my fault. I was playing with him, then I saw a mosquito, and turned to catch it. Timothy decided to chase me and went right over the edge. He didn’t cry long, and then he was chasing Samantha all over her room again.
I’m thankful for… air conditioning. It’s only the beginning of March, and it’s already 35C or 95F in the middle of the day. Hot Season is just starting to warm up. There’s forecasts of over 40C (105F) on the horizon.
I’m reading… March 2010 edition of Chiang Mai CityLife Magazine. What else would a hip, happening Chiang Mai Mum be reading?
I’m hearing… tic toc, tic toc over Samantha’s monitor. Thankfully that’s the only thing coming thru it. We won the sleep battle tonight. When will we win the war?
Around the house… spick and span! There’s nothing like hiring a cleaner to help motivate you to keep things tidy. We’re also getting ready for our trip to Kuala Lumpur in a few days. So there’s travel gear being pulled out, lists to be made and bags to be packed.
One of my favourite things… when Samantha comes home from school and runs into the house looking for me, gives me a big hug and says, “I love you!” It is a special thing, cause some days she just says, ‘Hi Mum’ and goes to play. Two point nine years and already so much personality.
Plans for the weekend… Friday, Sean is off for a day at the village, while I finalize our travel plans. Saturday morning it’s off to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a visa run. Sunday, church at SIB KL and then a whirl wind tour of KL.
A photo thought…Nap Time

This morning the PM10 got up to 162.2. Then we had a weird 15 minute downpour. Now everything is nice again.
for some reason, Chiang Mai has two listings on this site. So, Sean's numbers are correct. And the correct numbers for March 9 (date of original post) is 132.3. No wonder I have a barking cough, but with no cold or flu symptoms.
