Okay, so by last Sunday (July18) I was getting worried that I had missed the Ring in my Poopy Excavations. I at church, eating my lunch, mentally planning the rest of my day – Traditional Sunday afternoon nap, the it’s off to the hospital to make sure that ring still resides in The Princess. Then someone runs in and tells me that Sean fell and is in a lot of pain.
Outside the front door of the church, he’s on the ground surrounded by people, comparing his feet. At first I thought he’d broken his ankle, but then I saw his little toe on his left foot sticking out sideways. Hmm. That doesn’t look right. Then one of the guys announced that we needed to go to the hospital for xrays and Sean is wisked off to Lanna Hospital while I take the kids home for naps with P’Wan.
I got to the hospital just as Sean was getting his xrays. One nice thing about Thailand is that Thai’s won’t let you go to the hospital by yourself. He had a family of 5 taking care of him while I took the kids home. It was a real community event!
So, we go into the doctor and he pulls up the xray. I instantly see the break and gasp. A clean break, sitting at a lovely angle. I was so upset. It may as well have been an ankle or leg!! I can’t get the image out of my head. I need to draw a picture of it for therapy purposes, but haven’t had time. The doctor set the toe in a ‘buddy splint’ and sent us on our way (2 hours later). Thankfully both kids were asleep when we got home, so we both got a little rest. Then I was off to the hospital, again.
My appointment was for 5:45pm. When we arrived, they said the doctor wasn’t coming. Thankfully there was another pedi there to see Samantha. We went over to xray, Samantha was a champ. But the xray tech didn’t know what she was looking for: she thought the solid line in the xray (my ring) was a foreign object interfering with the xray. So we did it all over again, and again she said, “There’s something wrong. We need to try again.” So I asked to see the xray, and we both laughed as I explained the Story of the Swallowed Ring. I was very happy, cause Mrs Pessimist had convinced me that I had missed the ring due to lax searching methods.
Samantha finally passed it on Monday night. There was much celebration at Sanborn Cottage.
Sean has been doing great. Except for the times that the kids have inadvertently jumped on his foot. I haven’t had much time to myself this week, cause Sean usually bathes the kids and puts Samantha to bed, but I am doing more of that now. Good prep for being a Single Mum for 10 days when Sean takes off for his ministry trip in Southern Thailand in a few days.
Poor Sean, hope his foot is okay on his trip! And I'm so happy you got your ring back!!
