There are many cultural norms in America that leave me scratching my head in wonder. But the Kindergarten Graduation is the strangest of them all.
I really don’t get the point of graduating from Kindergarten. So a bunch of kids made it through a their first year of school. They played. They laughed. They learned to write their numbers and letters, and maybe even learned to read a little. No big deal.
12 years of Blood, Sweat and Tears. Now that is an Achievement. That deserves the Fanfare and Fireworks.
But now I am the Kindergarten Mum. I see the wonder in the eyes of my Daughter as she anticipates the reward for her achievement. Her excitement over being celebrated alongside her 5 classmates (yes, it’s a small school).
And her wonder and excitement just rub off on me.
We’re planning a party to celebrate. And The Uncle, The Grandad & The Nana will all be here to cheer her on.
I can’t wait to see her in that little Cap and Gown. She’s gonna be so Stinkin’ Cute!
Oh my goodness, I’m not a Jaded Pessimist this week. I feel the Wonder and Excitement of a child.
I think I’ll go Dance in the Rain now.
