Friday November 12, 2010 marked the first Bless Chiang Mai (BCM) Children’s Prayer Event. Since 2000 Bless Chiang Mai has held an annual prayer event in Chiang Mai where the churches come together to prayer for Thailand. Usually about 3000 people attend, from all over the province and from all denominations. It’s a wonderful time of worship, prayer and unity.

Jenny & Mirjam, with Sean on scaffolding

Mirjam (City Gate Church) and Jenny (Powerpack Ministries) wanted to organize a Children’s event that ran concurrently with the main Youth and Adult event, to help the children be an integral part of the prayer movement, rather than just hidden away in some room with babysitters. So, they spear-headed the Inaugural BCM Children’s Prayer Event, using the Powerpack program as the basis for the event… Chasing God. Shaking Nations. The event focused on kids aged 6 and up, but lots of younger kids were there, including mine who really enjoyed the dancing and games.

Children praying

There were a few significant moments during this night of fun and fellowship, prayer and worship. The night started with worship, loud and awesome – the kids were right into it from the beginning, dancing and singing with everything they had. God was really moving. After worship, we used games, drama and songs to remind the kids that God wants to hear our prayers, but he also wants us to take time to listen to what He’s saying as well. He’s always ready to speak, we just need to wait and listen. Then Mirjam opened up the time for the kids to recommit their lives to Jesus, or to give their lives to Him if they had not already done so. About 50 kids went forward and the leaders prayed for them.

Prophetic Art

Then we broke into workshop groups to learn new forms of intercession: Prophetic Art; Drama; Prayers of Blessings; Power of Praise (Prayer Warriors). Each workshop was activity based, so the kids had lots of fun, while learning the Prayer is an active conversation with our Heavenly Father. Each group made a presentation about what they’d learned to the rest of the Kids.

Earlier in the day, the BCM team had placed banners around the room, each a prayer station for us to pray at: Government. Education. Sick Children. Thailand. The World. Revival. The Church. Healing. We split into smaller groups and the children prayed out over each of these areas, praying for God’s Kingdom to come, for revival and a fresh move of His Spirit. The kids prayed out with purpose and enthusiasm.

Praying over The Big Map

For me, the best part of the night was when we pulled out that BIG map of Thailand, and the children were asked to identify the sins common in Thailand. We wrote them down, and put them on the map. Prostitution, corruption, lying, dishonoring parents, promiscuity, pride, gambling, drunkenness, idolatry… the list went on. The kids came up with this on their own. They were not coached. Marlene asked the kids who wanted to pray about these things to form a line. Then using 2 Chron 7:14, she explained about representational repentance, and at least 50 kids came up to pray over Thailand. As they prayed out, one by one, Marlene lit a candle, and the candle was placed on the map in place of the sin card. Many of the kids were very passionate and truly brokenhearted on behalf of their nation.

The Grand Finale – Let’s Dance!

We ended the night with a bang – a Tunnel of Blessing – all the leaders held up a long piece of red fabric and the children ran through (several times) as we prayed blessing over them Then we continued with more worship and dancing, lead by the young Powerpack team that had been put together by Mirjam and Jenny.

I’m excited to see where this goes. God is moving among the children of the world. It is these kids that will lead the way for the revival in Thailand and the world. A children’s prayer movement is about to take off, worldwide. While they are passionately pursuing Jesus, most of us oldies who call ourselves Christians are gonna be left in their dust, scratching our heads trying to figure out what just happened.

It’s the 4/14 Window. We need to make sure we don’t miss it!
