Which is better, the city or the village?
In the village the noise never stops. Dogs barking & fighting. Crickets chirping. Cluck cluck cluck. Cock-a-doodle- (the roosters here don’t say it right!). Brrrr…Tokay! Tokay! Tokay! (big gecko) Click click click. (small gecko) ALL NIGHT LONG. Rolling thunder. Flashes of lightning. Meeeeoooowwww. Followed by Bang bang bang – the neighbours building houses at 5am. There’s no way to block it out.
The kids jump out of bed in the morning and run down stairs to see the chickens and roosters. We catch all sorts of bugs for them to play with. They chase the dogs down the road. We pick flowers and play in the river. Mud puddles to jump in and trees to climb.
In the city the noise never stops. Traffic, crazy traffic. Trucks, buses, tuk tuks, car and mopeds zooming by. A TV that’s too loud. A neighbour fighting with his wife. Music blaring from the local Karaoke bar. Tokay! Tokay! Click click click. But at least I can block it out by closing the window and turning on the A/C.
In the morning the kids jump on Mummy’s head, yelling, “Let me out of this claustrophobic hotel room!!” They escape down stairs and torture the puppy with the broken leg and the expensive tropical fish in the hotel. There’s ornaments to break and roads with blind corners for them to run onto. No to mention a Mummy running after them saying, “Don’t touch this! Don’t do that!”.
For me personally, I am content in village or city. Both have their pros and cons. But I have to say that now that I have kids, I really do enjoy the village a lot more than the city! I think the kids agree with me.
